Cross Country

We had a great day today at Cross Country.
I was impressed with the way everyone 'put their best foot forward' 😀
Congratulations to the students who made the top 3.
And well done to everyone for a great day.

Class Trip

The class did a great job walking up Mt Hobson.
We found lots of 'icons' as we looked around at the top.
We've been looking at how images can represent things to us.
We were looking for images that represent Auckland or New Zealand for us.

Gummy Fractions

Today everyone had an important question to answer...
Did they want to eat 1/6, 1/2, 1/12, 1/3, 1/16 or 1/8th of a gummy worm?
They all chose silently and sat behind their choice.
Then we cut the gummy worms up and got to eat what we chose...
Completely fair but not equal!!!

Soccer

Today we had soccer coaches from 'Football for Children' come and take a session with the Year 3 classes. It was a lot of fun.

Technological Challenge

Room 19 finished off our Hut Building inquiry with two technological challenges.
The first was to build a hut using all natural materials (except rope) that could fit a toy and keep it dry in light rain.
We reflected on our hut building and made improvements on our second attempt.


The second challenge was to make safe huts that were big enough to fit the 4-6 children. We then invited our Year 1 buddy class to come and read stories in the huts.
The weather just cooperated!
We had to move from the grass to the courts for our 'lean to' huts due to mud. Students improvised on the spot using logs to weigh down their hut instead of using pegs.
Our A-frame huts, tepee and huts between the trees put a second tarp down to sit on.

   

  

   

  

   

I'm guessing the holidays may see a few huts being built.
