We finished the day off today spending time with our buddy class, Room 12.

It was lovely seeing Room 19 being kind and careful with the Year 1 class.

Self Portraits

We have been working on self portraits over the last few weeks.
Here are the steps we have taken

First we outlined our face in pencil

Then we painted in our skin colour.

After that, we used sharpie to outline features such as our eyes, nose and mouth

Next it was time to paint our hair, eyebrows and lips

then colour in our pupils and paint our lips

Finally we cut out t-shirts and painted bright backgrounds for our art

Pop in to see the finished art.

They look wonderful.

Walking trip to Waitaramoa Reserve

What a great field trip we had today.
Room 19, 20 and 21 walked down to Waitaramoa Reserve.
We were looking out for creatures in food chains.
We found great examples of producers (plants that make their own food),
primary consumers (herbivores)
secondary and tertiary consumers (carnivores)
We even found some decomposers breaking down creatures into nutrients which help the producers grow again.

Each group took some pictures - here are a few
Can you work out whether these are producers, consumers or decomposers?

Making Hongbao

Today in our Chinese lesson, we made hongbao, red packets.

We folded red paper into thirds.
Then we folded each end over a centimetre or two.
We then cut the edges of our paper.
We trimmed two of the three folded edges.
Then glued them into place.
They look great.

We are going to send a message in Chinese to students at another school in our red packets!
How exciting.

Word Games

Room 19 are having a go 'building' words using phonic cubes.

Each cube has one or two letters: a consonant (such as 't') or a blend (such as 'fr'), a vowel (such as 'a') a diagraph (such as 'sh' or 'oo').
Our table challenge was to make the most interesting word.

Writing Frames

Room 19 have been beavering away making writing frames.

We've drawn pictures of flowers, leaves and berries to represent our School Houses:
Karaka, Koromiko, Kowhai, and Pohutakawa.

They're looking fabulous as you can see:
